New Safeguarding Act in Force

Today the Taxis & Private Hire Vehicles (Safeguarding & Road Safety) Act 2022 came into effect. It places (1) a burden on licensing authorities to share information on safeguarding or road safety concerns about a driver with the authority responsible for the licence and (2) requires the inputting of licence refusals, suspensions, revocations or non-renewals onto a central database. To assist licensing authorites, the Department of Transport (DfT) published, on 23rd may 2022, the ‘Statutory Guidance: Taxis & Private Hire Vehicles (Safeguarding & Road Safety) Act 2022‘.
