DfT Publishes Wheelchair Report

Today the Department for Transport (DfT) published its report on ‘Wheelchair Accessible Travel: Taxi & Private Hire Services.  It presents research, compiled by Ipsos MORI, which aims to “…measure the number of people who use a wheelchair and travel by wheelchair-accessible taxis or wheelchair-accessible PHVs…” and “…explore the experiences and attitudes of people using these services…”. A number of conclusions are reached based on the findings. These cover:

  1. The Perception of Cost.
  2. The Experience & Engagement of Drivers.
  3. The Type of Vehicle.
  4. The Highly Varied Nature of Passenger Experiences.

The report, and its findings, will form a basis for current DfT policy, investment decisions and designs for future research on similar topics.
