DfT New National Standards Plan

Today the Department for Transport (DfT) has announced plans for ‘New National Standards on Taxi Licensing Proposed to Protect Passengers‘.  This follows the publication of Baroness Casey’s ‘National Audit on Group-based Child Sexual Exploitation & Abuse‘ in June 2025 and aims to strengthen safety / protections for passengers in licensed vehicles. To facilitate this approach, as regards providing the Transport Secretary with the necessary powers, an amendment to the English Devolution & Community Empowerment Bill was tabled on 18th November 2025.
